As promised in my last post, here's a link to the GoPro video's I took of the Redentore Fireworks a couple of weeks ago. Having reviewed them in the cold light of day (it's 28c as I write this so it's only metaphorically cold!) I've concluded that 1.) I was very tipsy when I filmed these as the camera work isn't very stable and 2.) I don't have a future as a cameraman. Probably just was well that I'm retraining as a welder...
To add a little bit of colour I've included a few still shots from the GoPro. The lens has a 'fish eye' which means that edges of the photos and video's curve, but this was the only way I could capture the whole vista of the fireworks display as the barges carrying the fireworks are spread over about 200 meters of waterfront from left to right and the big fireworks must explode closer to 300 meters high.
The best video's are the first and last video's which show the start of the fireworks; it's lovely to hear people's reactions when the fireworks spell out the word 'Pace' (the Italian work for Peace). The last video was recorded as the GoPro started to overheat - It was 30 odd degrees even that late at night but gives a good sense of the final crescendo of fireworks.
The display lasted 45 minutes and I could not have asked for a better position to watch them from on board Nuovo Trionfo. Once again my thanks to Luisella Romeo @ See Venice and her husband Roberto for helping be get a place on board and for their hospitality.
Sarah would have loved watching these firework and there were certainly times I felt like she was standing next to me. I'm already looking forward to going back to Venice on 2023 for Redentore.
Just as a heads up, these video's were filmed in 4K so some are big (as in as much as 3Gb each), so please don't use a mobile device to watch them unless you've got a generous data bundle and don't mind clobbering your allowance. If you need a low res version of the video, give me a shout and I'll send you a low res link.
More travels soon and I'll be posting updates as I go.
I wish you amazing experiences and safe travels of your own.
Alan
